Genoa: A. Donath 1906. TEXT in ITALIAN. A succinct and useful summary of naval vessels past and present, splendidly illustrated with drawings, photographs of ships of various nations, with a small glossary at the end of each chapter, handsomely presented. No dust jacket, 8vo three-quarter bound in blue leather and glossy marbled paper edged in gilt, raised bands, top edges gilt, marbled endpapers, apparently published with a soft cover which is included here, index, index to illustrations, cxxxii+608pp, 319 text illustrations, fold-out plan of Japanese heavy cruiser Kasuga shown in longitudinal and horizontal sections at 1:200 scale, leather edges scuffed but not split, pages beginning to age-darken but no foxing, tight, overall a handsome copy of a scarce early 20th century reference publication.

7 Oliveira Modelos de Navios: Existentes na Escola Naval

Lisbon: Imprensa Nacional 1896. A catalog by Joao Braz de Oliveira in Portuguese, with French translations by his friend Jose Augusto Celestino Soares. 28 b&w photos, with description in both Portuguese and French, 9x12.5, age-yellowed, spine missing, binding virtually absent, all pages and plates intact, slight foxing, pages chipping but complete. Stamped as property of famed US modeller August Crabtree on title, inscribed by Soares on introduction. Overall Poor, but considering scarcity and age, a worthwhile copy.

Paris: L. Curmer 1844. Full title: La marine, arsenaux, navires, equipages, navigation, atterages, combats, by M. Eugene Pacini, illustrated by M. Morel-Fatio. Contemporary half-binding in green leather and marbled paper covered boards, light rubbing, decorative gilt spine, all edges and endpapers marbled. Scattered foxing throughout, except for two plates which appear to have been printed on acid paper, 1 plate of 36 flags and 8 plates of seamen's uniforms hand-tinted, 117 text engravings. Unbroken copies in this condition very scarce, overall Very Good. [Caravan 1987: original wrappers $600]

The evolution of German torpedo boats and destroyers from the 1870s through WWII, with numerous rare photographs of vessels under weigh and in action. Dust jacket intact but badly torn with about half of rear cover absent, 4to in navy cloth with some red crayon marks on rear though not obtrusive, contents clean and tight with no marks, overall a Very Good copy of a less common warship book.
