13 Shuptrine Jericho: The South Beheld

Birmingham AL: Oxmoor House 1974, 1st edition. An artist's book, and a poet's; the artist is Hubert Shuptrine who lives in the mountains and the poet is James Dickey who lives in the coastal lowlands. They collaborate on images of the south they have lived, but independently; pictures and text are to be experienced separately as a set of visions. Large oblong 16x12.5 inches, 100 full-color plates, many full-page, of Shuptrine watercolors, with an introduction, three essays and an epilogue by Dickey, halfbound in maroon buckram and natural sailcloth with embossed image on front board, clean and tight, slight damp staining on lower outer corner of rear board but no evidence of damage on endpapers or contents, only the discoloration on rear board prevents this beautifully produced book from being rated higher than Very Good.
