18 Hichborn, Philip Report On European Dock Yards

Washington: GPO 1886. In 1884, the Secretary of the Navy (Chandler) dispatched a naval constructor to England, France, Germany, and Italy for the purpose of observing personally the improvements in naval architecture, particularly in the construction of steel vessels of war; his Report contains Hichborn's descriptions of European dock-yards, torpedo-boats, appliances, iron & steel works, and his conclusions. No dust jacket, tall 4to in 3/4 bound leather, 44 foldout plates all intact, besides a few chipped fore edges all plates clear and clean with no foxing, front board detached, rear board nearly so, both soiled; despite the rough exterior, the contents are clean and tight, owner's name on front endpaper o/w no marks, an excellent reading copy as is and a nice candidate for re-casing.
